if you came here on how to use ota for miui pie. then process for OTA should still be same. just follow the guide. also recovery links are not updated here. so get updated recovery links from downloads channel and also remember to download correct recovery which supports ota and also supports pie/oreo firmware.

How to install OTA updates with RedWolf Recovery? - v27 only! (From dev)
0- Install Redwolf recovery and Reboot recovery.
1- Click on theme icon on the top – section with RedWolf specific settings.
2- Enable this checkbox: “Support OTA Survival trigger package”
If you are using system mods, like cam2api enable system backup.
3- Go to third tab and change OTA Survival trigger path from to “META-INF/com/miui/miui_update” to “META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary”.
4- Flash full MIUI ROM and flash ota.
5- Disable Support OTA Survival trigger package before flashing anything.
6- Flash whatever you want after that. Like magisk, etc.
5- Reboot your device in to the system.
6- When you get some update just download it using updater app, reboot to recovery, enable Support OTA Survival trigger package then flash it manually.
Don’t forget to disable Support OTA Survival trigger package again after flashing ota, it’s needed every time you flash.

How to use ota file with custom twrp
lets say you are MIUI 10 pie 9.5.23 and you have ota zip for 9.5.30 from 9.5.23
1. Flash full rom zip 9.5.23
2. Reboot to recovery (you can try skipping this step, if you face some error in 3rd step then you should reboot to recovery and try 3rd step)
3. Flash ota zip of 9.5.30 from 9.5.23
4. Take boot image backup of this 9.5.30 ROM now. just boot image backup and keep it safe.
5. Flash magisk, cam2api or any other zip that u usually do after flashing miuiroms.
Now for next version lets say it is 9.6.6
1. Restore boot image of 9.5.30 which you took backup of last time
2. Flash ota of 9.6.6 from 9.5.30
3. Take backup of boot image of 9.6.6 now (now you can delete old boot image backup of 9.5.30)
4. Flash the usual stuff like magisk, cam2zip etc which u usually flash after miui.
Much more easier than using redwolf recovery process.
